It is the Azilal region, extending north of the High Atlas to the southern foothills of the Middle Atlas, that provides many of the most-sought-after, heavily decorated carpets.

Unique Piece designed and woven by berber women from the Azilal Region. “Azilal” and “Ourika” Rugs: No-one knows exactly how long they have existed. No-one can say where they are from. No-one knows what their predecessors were or what they might have looked like. Many people are amazed that they have remained a secret for so long. We’re talking about rugs from the central regions of the High Atlas in Morocco. Over the past 15 years, these rugs have attracted a great deal of attention both in the decorative market and especially in the market for art-loving collectors. They feature great creativity in terms of design, they combine irregular and abstract patterns with numerous Berbers symbols and diamonds based graphics.

Our Moroccan Azilal Rugs are a masterpiece with unique artwork that will beautify your home for a long time. We believe that you can pass the rug down for generations if you’re able to properly care for it, since the high-quality wool will never wear out nor the colours will fade.

    Dimension: 3.20 x 1.42 ( m)

Authentic, natural and a piece of the Moroccan Soul

In the last few years, modern interior trends have been graced by Moroccan rugs. Rugs characterized by high pile fluffs and thick knots of pure wool, like the minimalist Beni Ourain have become a center of attraction in many homes.

Moroccan Berber tribes traditionally used ‘flat weave’ techniques in creating an impressive array of different types of rugs. These include woven floor coverings without a thick knotted pile, blankets and kilim (called hanbals in Morocco). The designs of the rugs are captivating; featuring a simple harmonious intermarriage of color and often based on ordered geometric shapes. In a room, these rugs exhibit both drama and a sense of modernity at the same time.

The best Original Berber carpets are neither ‘aged’ or ‘quic fixed’ and became rarer with time, and finding an authentic pure  Moroccan rug can today be as hard as finding a needle in a haystack. This Beni Ouarain rug from 1960 is the unique peace we hunted for a long time and was hard to get. Hope this rug will find it’s new home to create an authentic eclectic style

The beautiful textiles of the Beni Ourain rugs, for instance, reflected the level of importance of wool in every aspect of life of the Berber tribes. The rugs were woven by women who mostly created the rugs based on the important stages of a person’s life such as a wedding (Handira and wedding capes), warm blankets for winter months and flat floor coverings for their wooden houses.

The number of vibrant weaving traditions for the rugs was just as many as the Moroccan tribes. While some used natural dyes and dyed with henna, other tribes used brown, bold red, tangerine, magenta, rose and mauve dyes were used.

Because of the weaving techniques employed, bold geometric designs and strong bands of color mostly combined with cream or white as a demarcation for the motifs. The energetic design of a ivory Moroccan rug, for instance, is perfect with a muted interior palette.
